touring stuff

funny things happen at gigs sometimes. in yamba they bought in a whole heap of extra police from grafton to patrol the mean streets in paddy wagons as if it was downtown baghdad or something. we thought this was completely over the top until after the show the well behaved punters turned into rioting maniacs in the carpark- i guess the cops made use of local knowledge, but i still reckon any criminal worth his salt in grafton would be keeping a keen eye on the yamba gig guide!! at doyalson rsl (or the doylo as they call it) we were greeted by such rapturous excitement that i feel like sacking our agent for not booking us there before- surely these people were in danger of self combustion or something close. we had girls on guys shoulders, and even guys on guys shoulders. three at a time, and topless. kinda like manpower- creepy... last night we played ferntree gully- isn`t that the name of a kids nature movie set in a beautiful tropical rainforest? mmm. well i don`t think the movie drew it`s inspiration from this suburb, but i gotta say the crowd were completely awesome, save for the couple of obligatory knuckleheads that always take things a bit too far- oh that was actually the security guards, who instead of catching the people that came over the barrier decided to just let them drop before roughing them up on the way out. they were going about this when some bloke came flying over and landed head first in the pit, splitting his head open and concussing himself. he was taken away in an ambulance. i hope he`s ok but i think the moral to the story is if you can`t rely on other people to do their job, it`s probably not worth doing the crowd surfing thing at all. it was big in the 90`s but i think most people are over it now, especially fans in the front few rows who are getting kicked in the head buy people coming over the top. people getting seriously hurt at gigs is not the go. on the band front kris and pat have gone out and got matching roger federer style tennis outfits and raquets, though they are still no match for gabe and i in our doubles tournaments, and the crew are conducting nightly dice championships, complete with a green velvet rolling surface. as you can see in grinspoon, it`s all fun and games. lets keep it that way!!
cheers
