November 2002
When: Monday, November 18, 2002 Where we were at: timaru, invercargill, dunedin, christchurch hey folks, well the nz tour is a rap!! did our last gig last night in christchurch, which is a cool city with lots of...... churches.. go figure. anyway we met some pacifiers mates including mark who`s the bass player in salmonella dub and had a fun time after the gig to celebrate our tour.. the gig of the tour though has to go to dunedin, this place f#&*$kin rocks!! it honestly felt like we were back in oz for the night, the crowd was nuts!!! we also had a great time in timaru and invercargill, which was famously described by mick jagger as the asshole of the world. apparently we were lucky cause the weather was good, we heard it`s gets pretty ugly when the antarctic winds start howling!! well we`ve got a week off now before gone south so until then take care and rock on cheers joe ps thanks again to pacifier for an effin great tour.cheers

When: Friday, November 15, 2002 Where we were at: wellington hey kids, the pacifier boys promised us a good time in their home town of wellington, and they certainly delivered!! we arrived on the friday to hear they`d added an extra show, which meant four in a row at the parthenon, the greek club we were playing!! first we had to avoid being belted by an extremely drunk and kinda violent guy who wandered into the venue at soundcheck, but after that everything went smoothly, and our response from a packed wello crowd was awesome!! when pacifier went on though, the crowd stepped up a couple of levels as the boys put on an intense performance- they`ve copped a bit of flack over here for their name change, but i think they proved its not the name of the band that`s important but the amount of rock in the band!! onya fellas!! after the gig we all got over excited and headed to a bar with karl and john and tom etc, and had a bloody good time telling each other how much we all rock!!! the next night was a continuation in both regards, and on sunday was an all ages. we didn`t know what to expect from a nz under age crowd, but if anything they were more in tune with the spoon songs than the oldies, we were even hearing calls for old songs like repeat!! by monday night we starting to get cabin fever from playing the same gig to many times so we decided to spice things up a little by bringing our rider on stage with us, and handing beers out to the crowd. so we carried our esky(over here they call it a chilly-bin!!) on and got on with it, unfortuneately the close proximity of the alcohol probably caused us to over-indulge a tad, and i gotta say we were a bit sloppy!! oh well, i`m sure it made for entertaining watching!! after the show we hit the bars again, things got very messy and then all of a sudden i was being bundled onto the ferry for the south island. i`d like to tell you the view throught the cook strait to the south isle was great, but i slept all the way, waking up at the picton warf.... anyway thanks to all those who came and checked us out on the north isle, we had a great time and we hope to see you soon, cheers joe
When: Friday, November 8, 2002 Where we were at: new plymouth, wanganui, palmerston north hey folks, how goes it? we just got into wellington, home of pacifier and a great little city it is too!! it certainly makes a change from the last few days on tour where we were driving through all sorts of back roads on our way across nz... from napier we drove directly west through what what i would call the new zealand alps, though that is probably not the official name!! we even got to the snow line on mount tongarira, before hitting a four hour section of windy, hilly , mountainous road that actually turned into a dirt sheep track for a while. tim-dog our legendary tattooed merch guy had to stick his head out the window to stave off his car sickness!! new plymouth was a cool gig, we met lots of spoon fans wearing volcom t-shirts and cheering loudly for champion, which was cool. next we travelled to wanganui, where the venue had forgotten to connect the electricity so another venus had to be found at the last minute- luckily the local school helped out and we set up there!! phil told everyone in the crowd that education sucks which was kinda funny!! thanks to the school rugby team who helped load in!! yesterday was palmy north, pat and i had a hit of golf and then off to the gig at the local uni- phil again told everyone that education sucked, again with a mixed reaction.... so far nz has been a tops time, i`ve got myself a little dv camera so hopefully we`ll be able to piece together a little dvd of our experience.... see you soon, cheers joe
When: Tuesday, November 5, 2002 Where we were at: auckland, rotarua, napier hey guys, well our nz tour is underway, and so far it has been a blast!! our first gig in auckland had a real good response and it felt a little bit like playing in oz!! the next day we were off to rotarua, which has those incredible geysers around it. unfortuneately there`s this crazy smell that comes with it, and if you`re not used to it it`s pretty full on!! on sunday we left for napier, which is an amazing little town that was flattened by an earthquake in 1931, and completely rebuilt in an art deco style, so it looks kinda cool. the gig there was awesome, and after wards phil and i got nice and drunk and made mugs of oursleves in front of all of pacifiers friends- woops!! pacifier have been really rockin so far and it`s great to see them play on their home turf. ok kids gotta go , till next time joe
When: Friday, November 1, 2002 Where we were at: auckland, new zealand hey guys, arrive in nz yesterday and today we play our first new zealand club show ever!! can`t wait to hook up with our pacifier buddies this arvo, i`ve got a feeling this tour is gonna be lot`s of fun!!! last night our record company took us out for teppenyaki, where they cook the food on a hot plate at your table- pretty awesome!!after that we hit a really dodgy bar called margaritas- the pool table had a lean on it that made that tower in piza look straight!! anyway pat and i had to get up early this morning for interviews and then kris and i had a wander through downtown auckland for souvenirs.... ok kids take it easy and we`ll talk soon, cheers joe
